Providing a Permanent Fix Through Early-Age Intervention
It is natural to look for quick solutions rather than taking the time and resources needed to eradicate the systemic barriers faced by many in the Global South. But at GSMI, we know true transformation requires addressing root causes. Because 90% of brain development occurs before age 5, early psychological and cognitive intervention is the single most vital lever for breaking intergenerational poverty and delivering a permanent fix.
According to World Bank data, children in the Global South are expected to achieve only 56% of their full potential as adults—a figure that drops to just 40% across Sub-Saharan Africa. To stop this tragic loss of human agency at its root, GSMI makes early childhood mindset development our primary focus.

About Us
Born from Lived Experience, Driven by Transformation
The Global South Mindset Initiative (GSMI) was born out of a deeply personal journey of adaptation, discovery, and purpose.
After moving from East Africa to North America to pursue higher education, GSMI founder Abdu Nuru Kajura noticed a striking contrast between himself and local students—not in talent or ambition, but in how they thought, learned, and approached life’s opportunities. Navigating a new culture required Abdu to fundamentally shift his mindset, adapt his habits, and re-examine many of the limiting beliefs carried from childhood.
The Revelation
A decade later, as a father reading children’s storybooks to his own kids, Abdu experienced a second awakening. These simple books contained profound, foundational lessons on self-efficacy, growth mindset, and emotional resilience—concepts he had never encountered growing up in East Africa.
This realization laid bare a critical global gap: while children in wealthier nations are systematically equipped with growth-oriented cognitive tools from early childhood, millions in the Global South lack access to this vital psychological scaffolding.
Our Calling & Vision
Driven by inspirational content and a commitment to his roots, Abdu felt compelled to return these insights to the communities that raised him—and to millions across Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean facing identical systemic barriers.
GSMI was founded to ensure that transformational mindset education is no longer a privilege reserved for a few regions or languages. We create and distribute evidence-based growth tools in local languages, deeply rooted in the cultural realities, values, and lived experiences of communities across the Global South.
